Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania, developed as a resort community starting in the 1860s, though its history traces back to 1794, when George Lewis bought the land for glassmaking. With Civil Engineer Embley S. Chase overseeing its resort layout in the 1880s, leading to the Eagles Mere Inn opening in 1887 and its establishment as a popular mountain retreat.
Winter enthusiasts will find great pleasure in cross country skiing, tobogganing and sledding. In the warmer months, golf courses and hiking in Rikkets Glen State Park are a must. Ricketts Glen is made up of over 13,000 acres of waterfalls, old growth timber and diverse wildlife. Here you can swim in Lake Jean, sunbathe, rent a boat or bring your horse to ride the many trails. Lake Jean is a 245-acre body of water known for boating (electric motors only), kayaking, fishing, and beach area, with camping nearby. For the more adventurous, take a hike on the beautiful 3.5-mile Falls Trail where you’re surrounded by waterfalls.
The Eagle’s Mere Auto Museum is a must go-to for car enthusiasts. One can immerse themselves in a unique
collection of 75 vehicles from the 1950s to the 1970s.
